Planning design of the Administrative Center of Khanh Hoa province

Eden Landscape cooperated with ATEK project development consultancy JSC and De-So architecture company of France to participate in the competition “Planning design of the administrative center of Khanh Hoa province”, Eden Landscape was responsible for the landscape design of the project.

The competition of idea for 1/500 planning of the administrative center of Khanh Hoa province was assigned by the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa province to Khanh Hoa Department of Construction in coordination with FLC Group JSC, who was selected as the owner of BT project investment (construction – transfer) Khanh Hoa administrative center.

The prize of the competition included 700 million for the first prize, 300 million for the second prize and 200 million as the supporting cost for each participant.

The administrative center was not only an urban development project to the suburbs but also an ecological heritage project of Khanh Hoa Province. The ecological topography of the mangrove estuary between the mountains and the sea surface is the different character but also disadvantage for urbanism due to weak ground and the risk of flooding.

Therefore, the proposed idea shall solve the problem based on the advantages of the land. The planning focus on economical and efficient infrastructure system such as building embankment and preserving the permeable soil foundation to maximize the disposal of accumulated water during high tide, while improving the native landscape of the mangrove area through the contrast between modern cities and native flora & hydrology.

The harsh nature shall be a treasure if we could place them in a good relationship to reach the balance with the artificial environment. The main target of the project is to create a new balance for the land with the scale and functions of a province administrative center.

Therefore, we shall create modern, symbolic spaces and specially solve the problem of protecting the natural elements and the precious environment of Nha Trang.

We offer two main ideas for planning and architecture orientation:
– The first idea was that the design shall show the local values including geographical, historical, cultural, artistic and traditional characteristics. That means all design shall contrast to globalization trend with monotone repeat.

Our desire was to turn this project into a “green paradise” not only in Khanh Hoa but also in Vietnam in the 21st century.
– The second idea is to design in harmony with nature, climate and the natural geography of this land.

Water, wind with soft and mangrove soil are foundation for the delicate interaction between urban and nature through community activities.

Then, Eden Landscape came up with the idea of creating in the middle of the green wall and the existing city, an open space with many green trees for residents on festivals and events as well as daily needs. This green space was connected with the shady herb field along the banks of the Quan Truong River as if we let wild nature go inside the city, where there were existing shade tree and water.

In this competition, Eden was very enthusiastic with our landscape idea, our architects considered this as an opportunity to contribute to the potential development of Nha Trang as well as Khanh Hoa province through different, native, traditional concerned design theory in planning project which had the combination among nature, economy, and local elements.

On the other hand, through this competition, Eden Landscape had the opportunity to work with ATEK and Deso who are big companies in the field of architecture. This was a good stepping stone for our future cooperation.
