The Hoian d’Or Eco-Agricultural Area project was honored with the Silver Award at the Vietnam Urban Planning Awards (VUPA 2024), recognizing its innovative and creative design approach, strong local identity, and harmonious integration of nature, culture, and people. The jury highly appreciated Eden Landscape’s approach of transforming an agricultural space into a distinctive destination for tourism, education, and ecological experiences in the heart of Hoi An’s heritage landscape.

Located on Con Bap Islet, Cam Nam Ward, Hoi An City, the 6.5-hectare agricultural area is part of the Hoian d’Or complex, which covers a total area of 25 hectares. With three sides bordered by rivers, the project follows an ecological planning approach, incorporating renewable energy and environmentally friendly materials. In the project design, Eden Landscape developed a positioning strategy for the Hoian d’Or Eco-Agricultural Area to become:

  • A gateway welcoming international visitors, particularly those who appreciate sustainable tourism and are willing to pay for unique experiences.
  • A space for living – experiencing – connecting with the community, where climate-adaptive agriculture becomes a foundation for the development of tourism and local culture.

The project faced numerous natural challenges. However, rather than being barriers, these became opportunities for Eden Landscape to create a sustainable development model that harmonizes nature, people, and culture, with a particular focus on climate resilience.

Inspired by the classic children’s literary work The Adventures of Cricket by Vietnamese writer To Hoai, combined with the spirit of Hoi An’s traditional craft villages such as Cam Thanh, Tra Que, Kim Bong, and Thanh Ha, Eden breathed life into the landscape, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind resort – cultural – organic agriculture – wellness complex in Hoi An.

  • Cricket Island: A themed space that embodies the spirit of exploration, passion for work, and community connection – core values conveyed through the story of Cricket – offering a distinctive ecological experience rooted in the Vietnamese countryside.
  • Design Inspired by Nature: Rustic forms and organic lines are closely integrated with the landscape and local way of life, while also narrating Cricket’s journey of adventure through each space.
  • Design Inspired by Hoi An: Distinctive symbols such as lanterns, conical hats, Thanh Ha ceramics, and water coconut forests are subtly incorporated, celebrating the value of local heritage and creating a distinctive identity for visitors.

Through the harmonious combination of literary inspiration, local values, and sustainable design thinking, the Hoian d’Or Eco-Agricultural Area is not only an important part of the resort complex but also a gateway welcoming international visitors, contributing to the richness and diversity of Hoi An’s tourism landscape.

This award is not only recognition of the creative efforts of the Eden Landscape team, but also a driving force for us to continue pursuing creativity, making every living space more beautiful and of higher quality.
